About the Role
The Squarespace Domains & Applications group is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join one of our Domains Teams in Aveiro, Portugal. As the foundation of a customer's digital presence, our domain products are critical to Squarespace’s mission. Our team is currently focused on architecting new products and expanding the feature set for one of the largest domain registrars in the world. In this role, you will focus on high-scale architecture, performance, and long-term scalability, contributing to the end-to-end development of components that power millions of digital identities.
You will report to the Engineering Team Manager in Aveiro, working in a hybrid capacity with a minimum of 3 days per week in-office. Join us to build robust distributed systems and shape the future of domain registration at a global scale.
Key Technical Responsibilities
- check_circle Help scale our services to meet the demands of a global product, ensuring our platform remains rock solid as we grow.
- check_circle Actively participate in the end-to-end development of multiple components, from initial architecture to production monitoring.
- check_circle Take ownership of well-scoped backend projects with guidance from senior engineers, providing a clear path for your professional growth into senior technical leadership.
- check_circle Work closely with Product, Design, Analytics, and Operations to understand user needs and translate them into elegant technical solutions.
- check_circle Improve the existing codebase by promoting disciplined software engineering practices, including automated testing, thorough code reviews, and high-quality documentation.
- check_circle Refine the performance of our applications and distributed databases to ensure a seamless customer experience.
Prerequisites & Qualifications
- check 7+ years of experience developing production-level systems using Java, Kotlin, or similar Object-Oriented languages.
- check 5+ years of experience working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, CockroachDB) and a deep understanding of data structures and software design patterns.
- check A sincere commitment to writing beautiful, readable code and a proactive approach to technical documentation.
- check A strong sense of ownership and curiosity about the why behind the features you build.
- check BS or MS in Computer Science (or equivalent industry experience).
