About the Role
Discord has a highly engaged community of millions of daily active users who use the platform for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does: play video games. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming, and we are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to hang out before, during, and after playing games.
This position is US based only. This is a full-time opportunity offering a base salary range of $196,000 to $245,000 USD, along with equity and benefits.
Discord is looking for Senior Data Engineers to join our world class Data team. Data Engineers at Discord work with data science, machine learning, and engineering teams to build the foundational datasets behind our tools, analyses, and models. The data you build directly shapes how we find opportunities, measure success, and make product and business decisions. We are hiring for multiple verticals including Gaming Intelligence and GRC. Key Technical Responsibilities
- check_circle Own the data models and pipelines for a functional area end to end, from design through implementation and adoption
- check_circle Build and maintain foundational datasets that power analytics, modeling, experimentation, and the dashboards and reports teams rely on
- check_circle Design data architectures for massive, complex data, balancing usability, performance, and cost
- check_circle Partner with data science, ML, and engineering teams to improve the coverage, accuracy, and reliability of instrumentation
- check_circle Build data quality audits at scale, with alerting and anomaly detection where needed
- check_circle Find and act on opportunities to improve pipeline and dashboard performance and cost
- check_circle Drive adoption of your work through documentation and enablement, and share what you learn with teammates
Prerequisites & Qualifications
- check 4+ years of experience building and operating production data pipelines with high volumes of consumer data
- check Strong data modeling skills across structured and unstructured sources
- check Proficiency in SQL and Python, with a focus on correct, performant, maintainable code
- check Experience implementing and monitoring data quality checks on very large datasets (e.g. billions of rows)
- check A track record of owning complex projects end to end: breaking them into phases and balancing speed, usability, and risk
- check Clear communication and stakeholder management skills, and comfort working on problems that are ambiguous and change quickly
- check A collaborative approach and natural curiosity
- check Passion for Discord or online communities (Bonus)
- check Experience with BigQuery, Airflow, and dbt, or similar tools (Bonus)
- check Experience with Looker, Tableau, or similar dashboarding tools (Bonus)
- check Experience designing data architecture for experimentation, creating frameworks that scale instead of one-off solutions (Bonus)
- check Experience mentoring other engineers or setting data engineering standards for a team (Bonus)
