Discord Greenhouse Board is actively seeking an experienced IT Ops Engineer - Lisbon to join our engineering organization. Discord has a highly engaged community of millions of daily active users who use the platform for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does: play video games. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming, and we are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to hang out before, during, and after playing games.
Core Technical Ownership
Discord is opening an engineering hub in Lisbon, our first dedicated one outside of our San Francisco HQ. And we’re building it from the ground up. As a member of our founding team, you’ll help set the direction for teams across Core Technology, advancing work that keeps Discord reliable for millions of people around the world, helps our engineers move faster, and protects our platform at scale. You’ll also help shape the culture of the hub so it feels unmistakably Discord while developing a distinctly Lisbon identity of its own.
Our engineering culture is founded on continuous delivery, comprehensive automated testing, and transparent architectural RFCs. Engineers operate with high trust, owning code from local prototype through production deployment.
What You Will Build
You will collaborate cross-functionally to engineer resilient, low-latency systems capable of scaling with our rapidly expanding user base and operational demands.
Key Technical Responsibilities
- check_circle Own end-to-end feature delivery across frontend interfaces, backend APIs, and data storage layers at Discord Greenhouse Board.
- check_circle Write clean, modular, and maintainable code supported by automated test suites and continuous deployment.
- check_circle Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and peer engineers in an async-first workflow.
- check_circle Investigate production issues, optimize latency bottlenecks, and participate in peer code reviews.
Prerequisites & Qualifications
- check Demonstrated experience shipping reliable software across multiple tiers of the modern web stack.
- check Proficiency in modern programming languages and web application frameworks.
- check Solid understanding of relational database design, caching strategies, and RESTful service architecture.
