Our mission on the Developer Platform Team is to help game studios succeed by creating meaningful experiences for players. As a B2B2C team, we serve two key audiences. For game studios, we build smart integrations and intuitive tools that make it easy for developers and community managers to connect with players and bring the best of Discord into their games. For players, we enhance on-platform experiences that deepen their connection to the games they love—and make it easier to build lasting friendships through play.
You’ll work on everything from the tools studios use to integrate with Discord to the player-facing experiences those integrations enable. For example, you might design in-game ways to invite Discord friends to play, onboarding flows for studios, or new ways to bring game moments and achievements onto Discord to spark social connection. Your work will span surfaces like the developer portal, dashboards, self-serve tools, in-game overlays, and the Discord client itself—where players discover games, make new friends, and play together.
As a product designer, you’ll work across the full product development cycle—from early exploration through to launch and iteration. You’ll bring a thoughtful mix of user empathy, systems thinking, and visual craft to solve meaningful problems for developers and players alike. Key Technical Responsibilities
- check_circle Embed within a product squad and partner with engineers, product managers, researchers, and data scientists to oversee the user experience of a product from concept to launch, and then continue to improve it after release.
- check_circle Create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and help implement your designs to pixel perfection, including quality checking all of your work as it is built.
- check_circle Own the bar for craft, execution and production quality for your immediate product team, and proactively identify opportunities to uplevel the quality of your work in production as you playtest.
- check_circle Actively influence your team's roadmap with a deep understanding of the product space, acting as a thought leader with your XFN leads in defining the 'how' of the product strategy.
- check_circle Present your designs to the team and the greater organization to drive alignment around your work.
- check_circle Identify gaps or improvements for our design system and contribute UX and design patterns that address design debt, and are adopted across the design organization.
- check_circle Be an active peer and participant in your organization's design team and culture, sharing/contributing often and proactively in critiques and in general channels.
Prerequisites & Qualifications
- check 5+ years of experience developing and leading design on central end-to-end consumer products across a variety of platforms (web, mobile, desktop, console, etc).
- check Experience working on B2B/B2B2C products and platforms.
- check Expert-level experience with Figma and high-fidelity prototyping tools, and confidence in utilizing AI to create prototypes.
- check Strong product thinking and strategic vision, with the ability to translate complex business requirements into intuitive user experiences.
- check Mastery of design craft, including typography, color theory, layout principles, and interaction design.
- check Compelling storytelling skills across multiple mediums with consistent experience pitching and influencing design decisions across peers and leadership.
- check Strong, proactive communication skills, forming ideas and presenting them to your cross-functional team.
- check Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, leveraging quantitative and qualitative data to inform design decisions.
- check Experience working with, and actively contributing to a design system with components of sub-system languages.
