About the Role
Squarespace is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Media Platform team within our Platform Engineering group. In this role, you will help provide Squarespace engineers with a scalable, reliable, secure, and flexible platform for uploading, processing, managing, and serving media assets like images, video, and audio. Based out of our New York City office, this is a hybrid opportunity requiring three days in the office per week.
As a technical leader, you will design systems and components, own complex projects end-to-end, and explore cutting-edge technologies at the forefront of image, audio, and video processing, compression, storage, streaming, and serving. You will also have the unique opportunity to integrate with LLMs and GenAI technologies while ensuring the availability and reliability of systems essential to millions of users and businesses worldwide.

Key Technical Responsibilities

- check_circle Own complex projects end-to-end
- check_circle Explore new technologies at the forefront of image, audio and video technologies – processing, compressing, storage, streaming, serving, etc.
- check_circle Ensure the availability and reliability of systems essential to Squarespace users and businesses powered by Squarespace
- check_circle Effectively collaborate and integrate with upstream and downstream teams
- check_circle Contribute to design discussions and collaborate with engineering teams across the company to enhance platform solutions
- check_circle Integrate with LLMs and GenAI technologies
- check_circle Be a technical leader and mentor within the team
- check_circle Participate in the team production on-call rotation
Prerequisites & Qualifications
- check 6+ years of experience developing backend systems with Java and Spring in cloud environments (e.g. GCP) and microservices architecture
- check An understanding of, and practical experience with, web application development and strong RESTful API development skills
- check Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders and engineers to come up with the best solutions for problems at hand
- check Comfortable challenging established workflows with AI tools, quick to adopt what works, and rigorous about customer data and safety
- check Experience developing large-scale, fault tolerant, distributed systems with familiarity in different transaction control and consistency models
- check Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases such as CockroachDB, MongoDB
- check Experience working with cloud services and tools for storage, identity and access management, monitoring, analytics, messaging, and databases (GCP preferred or equivalent cloud platform experience)
- check Experience with media content management such as images, video, and audio, and familiar with media standards
- check Experience with CDN technologies and caching architectures
