Pinterest is seeking an Engineering Manager II to lead our Android Modernization team in Toronto. In this pivotal role, you will be the driving force behind the tools and architectures that empower our Android developers to build world-class experiences for millions of Pinners and advertisers. This role operates under our PinFlex model, balancing flexibility with the need for in-person collaboration at our Toronto office (85 Richmond St W). You will be instrumental in setting the technical vision that keeps Pinterest at the forefront of mobile innovation.
Key Technical Responsibilities
- check_circle Lead, coach, and grow a specialized team of Android engineers.
- check_circle Set the team’s technical vision and roadmap in partnership with Client Platforms and cross-functional product teams.
- check_circle Drive platform modernization to help product teams adopt modern client architectures and build high-quality experiences.
- check_circle Improve client stability, health metrics, browser compatibility, runtime frameworks, and critical dependency currency.
- check_circle Establish clear operating rhythms for planning, two-week sprints, risk management, and monthly stakeholder updates.
- check_circle Hire, onboard, and develop engineers, creating an inclusive, high-performing team with clear expectations.
- check_circle Use AI to accelerate engineering workflows while applying judgment and verification to maintain code quality, security, and reliability.
Prerequisites & Qualifications
- check 10+ years of experience in engineering, including 2+ years of experience in engineering management.
- check Strong technical judgment grounded in mobile Android engineering (e.g., Kotlin, Compose, and modern architectures like MVVM).
- check Experience partnering with Senior/Staff engineers to build high-impact roadmaps.
- check Experience building platform capabilities that improve the productivity and effectiveness of product engineering teams.
- check Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience aligning priorities across teams and driving delivery through ambiguity.
- check Demonstrated ability to use AI to improve speed and quality in day-to-day workflows, with a strong practice of validating AI-assisted work.
- check Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
