About the Role
We are looking for a Front End Software Engineer to help define and shape the next generation of our media web experience. In this position, you will focus on the technical mechanics of video and audio content delivery at Reddit. You will work on our web media player and backend APIs, drawing on proven streaming platform patterns to craft low-latency, seamless playback experiences and interactive tools for creators and users worldwide.
Technical Focus & Ownership
This role spans end-to-end web engineering, from optimizing front-end UI components using React, TypeScript, and Next.js to designing maintainable backend APIs built with Go and Python. You will partner closely with product, design, client engineers, and platform teams to improve global media performance, streamline developer workflows, and mentor team members.
Compensation & Equity
The standard base salary range for US-based candidates in this position is $165,000 — $229,000 USD. Final offers depend on skills, experience, and location context. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible to receive equity in the form of restricted stock units (RSUs).
Key Technical Responsibilities
- check_circle Work cross-functionally with product, design, and other engineering counterparts to execute on product and business strategy and build novel products and features that our users will love.
- check_circle Contribute to the full development cycle: technical design, development, test, experimentation, analysis, and launch.
- check_circle Design and implement end-to-end fullstack solutions, optimizing web UI components for our media player (React, TypeScript) and the backend APIs (Go, Python) that power them.
- check_circle Move fast while balancing quality, avoiding extensive processes as well as show-stopping bugs.
- check_circle Review code and design docs, providing constructive feedback on product specs and mocks.
- check_circle Collaborate with client engineers and platform engineers to improve performance of media across Reddit to serve better content globally.
- check_circle Contribute to standards that improve developer workflows, recommend best practices, and help mentor junior engineers on the team to grow their technical expertise.
Prerequisites & Qualifications
- check BS degree in Computer Science, a similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
- check 3+ years of software development experience in one or more general-purpose programming languages (Go, Python, Rust, Ruby).
- check Proficiency in modern web development technologies (JavaScript, React, Next.js, TypeScript) and experience translating complex UI/UX designs into scalable web applications.
- check Experienced with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, and Thrift basics, with the ability to design and implement maintainable APIs.
- check Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and deliver projects on schedule.
- check Excellent communication skills with a proven track record of collaborating effectively in a fully remote environment.
